The Cambridge chooses Cambridge Women’s Aid as 2022 charity
March 15, 2022
The Cambridge Building Society will support Cambridge Women’s Aid (CWA) as its charity of the year for 2022. The Society will match the funds raised for the charity by its team members during the year.
CWA is part of the national Women’s Aid network that offers advice and support to women and children experiencing domestic abuse, as well as raising awareness of abuse issues among professions working with survivors and those seeking refuge and support.
The charity received the largest share of votes from team members, who were asked which cause they would like to support throughout this year.
The Cambridge’s CEO, Peter Burrows, said: “Nearly a third of all votes cast went to Women’s Aid, which is a thoroughly worthy cause and one we very much look forward to supporting.
“All of our people will have a day during the year for charitable work and we will fund match whatever they raise for CWA.”
The Cambridge’s team members donated more than 1,000 hours to a variety of charities in 2021, as part of its Making The Difference programme. They helped paint homeless shelters, build outdoor furniture and shared various training and business skills, as well as sleeping rough and raising funds through sponsored events.
Every team member receives a day to devote to a charitable cause. If they choose to raise funds for CWA the organisation will then match it, thereby doubling donations.
Sophie Meuwissen, Project Coordinator at Cambridge Women’s Aid, said: “We’re delighted that The Cambridge has chosen to support us this year. This kind of support from our local community gives us the ability to go the extra mile for a woman at a vulnerable moment in her life, increasing her resources, resilience and capacity to rebuild an independent life for herself and her children, free from fear. We’re thrilled to receive this support.”
