St Neots Town Football Club and Cambridge Regional College launch new football scholarship programme

November 2, 2021

Cambridge Regional College and St Neots Town Football Club have come together to deliver a Post 16 Football Scholarship Programme from September 2022.

St Neots Town Football Club and Cambridge Regional College have been working together to develop a scholarship programme that will encompass a BTEC Level 3 Sports qualification, delivered from the Huntingdon campus alongside professional football coaching at Rowley Park, home of St Neots Town FC. In addition to the study and training schedule, the scholarship squads will compete against other UK colleges in the British Colleges League.

CRC Director of Curriculum, Rob Metcalfe said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the college, and one that we are proud to be a part of. St Neots Town football club is well established and committed to providing opportunities for talented young footballers, this programme will align excellent coaching with a first-class educational experience to ensure that the learners gain aspirational destinations. We are looking forward to launching the programme out of our Huntingdon campus in 2022 and developing this new partnership.”

The St Neots football scholarship will launch with a 16-18 male cohort that will feed into the U18 St Neots team as the players progress through the programme, and as the scholarship develops, it is expected that the St Neots Town programme will expand to include a female squad, in line with demand.

Iain Parr, Director of football, said: “The strategic partnership that has been in place since January 2020 involving the St Neots First team and Cambridge United Football Club moves from strength to strength. As such we believed that the time was right to move from our current Scholarship educational provider to Cambridge Regional College. CRC has a long and established history of providing a first-class sports provision and it’s this experience that will further enhance our ability to identify and develop talented young footballers. Without doubt, this is a huge statement of intent to provide a clear pathway through to professional football. The St Neots Town FC football Scholarship Programme, in Partnership with CRC, will be based at Cambridge Regional College (Huntingdon Campus) and Rowley Park, home of St Neots Town FC.”

To promote the launch of the new partnership, and the football scholarship provision, an information evening and open trials will take place 3 November 2021 between 7.00-9.30pm and 20 December between 10.00am-1.00pm, with further open trials throughout the 2021/22.
