eg technology’s Co-Founder, Andrew Ede, retires
March 28, 2024
Today is quite a monumental day at eg technology.
Today, our co-founder Andrew Ede is retiring after 22 years at eg and a broader career spanning over 40 years.
Although this seems like the end of an era at eg, the wheels have been in motion for some time, and both Andrew and Danny have worked hard to ensure that eg is bigger than the two of them as founders. As a company we always design products with extensibility in mind, and this also applies to the running of our business.
Andrew has since been sharing his news with clients, suppliers and the many contacts he has built up over the years. He has also been tirelessly working with the eg team to ensure that his projects remain in the best possible hands, that his knowledge of business processes is shared, and that there will be no knowledge gaps in his absence.
“It is hard to believe that 22 years have passed since Andrew and I sat down in the Kingston Arms to write a business plan for what would become eg technology. During that time, the business has grown beyond recognition, guided at every point by a shared strategic vision and passion to deliver fantastic value to our clients. I would like to personally thank Andrew for his drive, wisdom and friendship. We will all miss him but wish him well, for a long and happy next chapter.” – Danny Godfrey
Andrew’s retirement will mark the end of a remarkable career. As well as building a talented multidisciplinary team of 50 staff, who now benefit from employee ownership of the business, Andrew lists designing the fluidic cell at the centre of the world’s leading gene sequencer and developing a powerful circulating tumour cell diagnostic platform as some of his eg career highlights.
“The past 22 years at eg technology have been incredible, but the time has come to start my next chapter. Although this could have been a move filled with trepidation, we have been working hard for some years to make the business increasingly independent of its founders, providing continuity in the wake of my retirement.
Notably, we transferred the ownership of eg technology to an Employee Ownership Trust a year ago, followed in October 2023 by the appointment of two new Directors to the Board, allowing me to step down. I am completely confident that I leave eg technology in a strong position, and that the enlarged management team will lead the business on to new greatness.
“I am very proud of the wonderful, talented team that we have built at eg technology and of the work that we have delivered over the years. I’d like to thank all our clients for their continued business; it has been a pleasure working with the wide and varied teams, and I look forward to seeing the progress of their businesses from the middle of the North Sea!” – Andrew Ede Andrew’s legacy speaks for itself, and we are pleased that he will continue to be involved in the governance of the business in his role as a Trustee. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for the past 22 years, for his role in making eg what it is today, and to also wish him a very happy retirement!
