Going Green at The Pitt Building

May 17, 2024

The Pitt Building team have just launched a Green Meeting Package, to encourage event planners to join them on their sustainability journey.

The venue team are now placing environmental issues at the heart of their operational decisions having pledged to proactively promote sustainability, invest in a greener future and reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

Following success in achieving Bronze Green Meeting Accreditation, an industry-wide standard for sustainable meetings and events, the team are now setting their sights higher by aiming for Gold Accreditation. New initiatives already underway include:

* Signing a ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ contract
* Providing separate bins for mixed recyclables and compostable items
* Removal of single-use plastics.
* Replacing old lighting systems with LEDs
* Better use of heating and cooling systems, which has already resulted in a 19% decrease in emissions from 2018-2019
* Encouraging the use of public transport
* Providing secure cycle storage
* Bottling own water on-site

Kate Wain, Sales Development Manager at The Pitt Building said, “Here at the Pitt Building we understand that the building, and the event services we provide, may have a direct negative impact on the environment. We are therefore committed to placing environmental issues at the heart of our operational decisions and have pledged to proactively work to promote sustainability, invest in a greener future and reduce our carbon footprint.

The launch of our Green Meeting Package is our latest initiative where we encourage our clients to join us on our sustainability journey. By opting for a Green Meeting package our delegates will enjoy a range of delicious plant-based menus and refreshment break snacks. We will also request that the meeting be paperless, no stationery would be provided and neither would we offer a photocopying or printing service.”
