Chief Executive, Helen Slaski announces her retirement

Chief Executive, Helen Slaski will be stepping down from her role at Cambridge Science Centre at the end of December 2021.

Helen announced her plans to retire earlier in the year and the trustees of the Science Centre have now begun the process to find her replacement.

Helen joined Cambridge Science Centre (CSC) in January 2017. She said: “I have really loved my time with the charity and working with some amazing people, so it will be something of a wrench to leave! I’m very proud of the unwavering commitment of the team at CSC who work tirelessly to meet our goals of sparking scientific curiosity in every child, igniting a passion for experimentation and discovery in everything and fuelling self-belief in those children who may doubt their own potential. Their outstanding work throughout the recent lockdowns, has been exceptional. I would like to thank the staff, Trustees, Executive Council members and all our sponsors for your amazing support in helping us achieve all we have. I know that CSC is in very good hands and will continue to move from strength to strength, building on very strong foundations.”

Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr David Cleevely, said: “Under Helen’s leadership the Cambridge Science Centre has established a reputation for quality STEM engagement with children throughout Cambridgeshire and beyond. During her time at the Centre, whatever the challenges, Helen has demonstrated an unswerving commitment to developing and improving our ways of working and introduced inspiring new educational products and services such as the popular STEMtots and the range of “VirtualSchoolTrip” products that have enabled sustained engagement during the lockdowns. These, alongside the success of our regular public sessions, community events and schools outreach programmes, shows the commitment Helen has had to ensure all our young visitors are introduced to science and have access to exciting, new things to do and try out. Helen will be very much missed by colleagues here, and we all wish her a very happy retirement.”

The Cambridge Science Centre is currently recruiting a new CEO to build on Helen’s legacy, and they are expected in post in Spring 2022. In the interim, co-founder and Trustee, Dr. Chris Lennard, will be supporting the excellent management team as they continue to deliver inspiring STEM educational interventions throughout East Anglia and beyond.
