Behind the Scenes at London Fashion Week
March 21, 2022
Cambridge Regional College students studying Level 3 Art and Design (Fashion Pathway) attended London Fashion Week in February as volunteers for fashion house Ikon, working behind the scenes.
We caught up with the group of six, Eva Bridgens, Maisy Smith, Meera Holden, Akeisha Odi, Saskia Knapp, and India Hardiman said: “We were put into teams. Some of us were helping with the events management such as seeing guests to their seats and taking tickets while the rest of us helped to unbag the clothes, hanging them on rails, and steaming ready for the runway.”
All six students are in their first year of a Level 3 Diploma and as they start their latest project, that will see them create a look from inception to wearable piece, they remain focussed on their end goal. All six are looking to enter the industry, with some considering the university route while others explore apprenticeships. With dreams of being household names and dressing celebrities, they have a clear vision of their future careers.
“The opportunity to attend London Fashion Week was fantastic. It helped us to see the other side of fashion. Fashion shows are chaotic and stressful, so much goes into the process of getting from the planning stages to the catwalk. When the time came, the audience loved the catwalk shows, making the hard work worth it.
We have been given the opportunity to return to London Fashion Week in September and again next March, so we will have lots more opportunity to gain work experience and industry insight before we take our next steps into the world of fashion.”
