Reflection Gardens mark one year since the first national lockdown
April 1, 2021
Cambridge Regional College has marked the UK National Day of Reflection, exactly one year after the first national lockdown, by creating Reflection Gardens at the Cambridge and Huntingdon campuses.
On Tuesday 23 March, staff and students from the Supported Learning department began working on the gardens, planting bedding plants and bulbs after tidying and preparing the area. Following the one-minute silence at midday, the gardens were officially named by the placement of a plaque made by CRC carpentry students.
Principal, Mark Robertson said: “These gardens will be a lovely, calming places for students and staff to enjoy as a place to seek peace and tranquillity. This has been a very challenging year for everyone and taking time for yourself, and time for a quiet moment can be essential at times.
“These wonderful gardens are being created by donations of plants and bulbs by students and staff. We hope that they will be a place where students and staff can find a little peace and quiet when needed.”
Moving forward, the gardens will be adopted by the horticulture and supported Internship students in Supported Learning. Instructors will work with the students each week to develop the gardens over the coming months. To support the ongoing maintenance of the gardens, a gardening enrichment club will provide an opportunity for any member of the college community to get involved.
