Rowan teams up with Cambridge Gospel Choir for Christmas shopping extravaganza

Cambridge-based arts charity Rowan is preparing for its Christmas fair, and this year is joining forces with Cambridge Gospel Choir.

Rowan’s Christmas fair, which takes place between 5.00-8.00pm on Wednesday 1 December, aims to raise money for the charity, which provides art workshops and forest school for adults with learning disabilities.

Visitors to the fair will be greeted by the Cambridge Gospel Choir singing carols at the front of the Rowan building on Humberstone Road.

“At Cambridge Gospel Choir we’re very aware of the positive effects that singing has on the spirit, mind, body and soul,” said Coco Mbassi, co-founder of Cambridge Gospel Choir. “We’re thrilled to bring our sound to Rowan who also emphasise the importance and enjoyment of creativity for all.”

The fair features a pop-up shop for visitors to browse and purchase goods that have been handmade in collaboration Rowan’s student artists.

Visitors can then help themselves to some festive refreshments including mulled wine and mince pies, to be enjoyed in Rowan’s garden. Other festivities include a raffle, which is stocked with prizes from local organisations, including four tickets to see the family panto Aladdin, at Cambridge Arts Theatre.

“All our student artists are busy preparing beautiful items to sell at the fair,” said Rachael Scott, Rowan’s CEO. “It’s a great chance for us to welcome the community into the building to raise their expectations of adults with learning disabilities. Plus the artists get a real sense of pride from seeing people purchase their handiwork!”

All funds raised at the event will enable the charity to continue its vital work in the community.

Rowan’s Christmas fair takes place on 1 December from 5.00-8.00pm at 40 Humberstone Road, Cambridge, CB4 1JG. Entry is free. To find out more, please contact Rowan on 01223 566027 or email ellie@rowanhumberstone.co.uk
