Hard-working corporate volunteers transform the sensory garden at Milton

A children’s hospice sensory garden has been transformed into a “stunning, tranquil and soothing place for reflection” after being given a major facelift by kind-hearted volunteers.

Volunteers from international consultancy and construction company Mace and two of its trade partners carried out the work completely free of charge after offering their services to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The team spent two days at EACH’s Milton hospice, digging out the existing limestone and soil pathway before laying new concrete – widening the path in the process. They also re-concreted a corner area, making it accessible to wheelchairs and beds.

The Mace team were supported on one of the days by volunteers from St James’ Place Wealth Management.

Hannah Forbester, EACH Corporate Fundraiser, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and couldn’t be more grateful to our friends at Mace and their partners, Clipfine and Getjar.

“In addition to supplying volunteers and materials free of charge, they also appointed a project manager and construction team. Between them, and with the fantastic support of the St James’ Place team, they’ve done a phenomenal job – effectively tearing up the pathway and starting again. It was a big project but one that badly needed doing and the end result is incredible.

“The sensory garden is now a stunning, tranquil and soothing place for reflection and I’m sure it’s somewhere families will enjoy spending time.”

Since the work has been completed, gardening volunteers from the hospice have been busy adding sensory items, including planting lavender.
