The Cambridge Building Society takes on Cambridge Half Marathon for good causes

February 4, 2025

A team from The Cambridge Building Society is set to take on the challenge of the Cambridge Half Marathon in a bid to raise vital funds for the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

The Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF) provides grants to local projects that tackle key community challenges, including loneliness, educational access, and heating support during winter. Since its inception, the charity has awarded over £32 million to thousands of initiatives across the county, meaning that most, if not all, residents have benefited from its work.

The Cambridge team includes Holly Smith, Customer Engagement Team Lead, and her partner Joseph Farrow. Joe Stack, Systems Expert, and Hannah Stead, Content Coordinator, will also be taking in the sights during the 13.1m run around Cambridge on 9 March to raise funds for charity.

Hannah said:

“Running the Cambridge Half Marathon is always a great event and a chance to challenge myself. This time around, I’m running it for CCF and a brilliant way to make a real difference in our community. Knowing our efforts will support vital projects makes it all worth it. The sense of teamwork and purpose keeps us motivated throughout training, especially when the weather isn’t always on your side. It’s inspiring to know we’re running for something bigger than ourselves.”

Joe added:

“While the training has been tough, the cause makes it all worth it. Being part of a team that’s dedicated to giving back to the community pushes me to go that extra mile. literally! The funds we raise will help those facing real challenges, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud to support.”

Holly shared:

“The Cambridgeshire Community Foundation does such important work, and every donation will go towards making a real impact. I can’t wait to cross the finish line knowing we’ve made a difference.”

Julia Cieslak, Marketing & Communications Officer at CCF, added:

“Fundraising events like this are crucial in ensuring we can continue to provide grants to local causes. The dedication of The Cambridge Building Society team helps us to reach more people in need and strengthen our community support.”

In addition to supporting community projects through fundraising, The Cambridge Building Society also runs its own Community Fund, managed by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation. Through this partnership, local charities, community groups, and organisations operating within a 15-mile radius of The Cambridge’s branch and store network can apply for grants of up to £10,000.

The Community Fund accepts grant applications twice yearly, with the latest round of applications now open.
