Unlock Global Opportunities: Your Gateway to Export Success
February 24, 2025

The Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, in partnership with the Department for Business and Trade and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, is hosting a major International Trade Event on Thursday 6 March, at the Møller Institute, Cambridge. This event will provide businesses with crucial insights and strategies to navigate global markets and unlock international growth opportunities.
Recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveals a significant shift in the UK’s trade dynamics. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the UK’s goods exports experienced a notable decline, with export volumes dropping by 2.5%, including a 6.9% decrease in goods exports to the EU. Conversely, services exports demonstrated resilience, growing by 1.2% during the same period. This divergence underscores the need for businesses, especially those in goods manufacturing, to adapt to the evolving trade environment. Delaying action could result in missed opportunities and increased vulnerability in a competitive global market.
Keynote speaker Mawutor N.K. Alifo, High Commissioner of Ghana, brings 25 years of diplomatic experience and will shed light on the strengthening trade relations between the West African region and the UK. West Africa stands out as one of the UK’s fastest-growing export markets, offering opportunities across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, and digital services. The UK’s recent Economic Partnership Agreement with West Africa further solidifies this relationship, aiming to boost trade and investment between the two nations. Engaging with West Africa not only provides access to its burgeoning market but also serves as a gateway to the broader West African region, presenting UK businesses with a strategic advantage in expanding their international footprint.
The event will commence with a networking breakfast, offering attendees the chance to build valuable connections. Following this, keynote speeches and panel discussions led by industry experts will provide actionable strategies and practical guidance on navigating the export landscape. The panel will feature trade experts, business leaders, and government representatives who will explore the latest trends, opportunities, and challenges in international trade. Together, they will equip businesses with essential knowledge to strengthen their global presence.
Ilona Karpanos, International Trade Advisor at Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, said:
“As global trade continues to evolve, businesses in our region must be equipped with the right knowledge and connections to seize international opportunities. This event is designed to provide businesses with the tools they need to approach new international markets, whether they are new to international trade or looking to expand further.”
The event is free to attend, but places are limited, and advance registration is required.
