How you can support families by volunteering for EACH’s Help at Home service

Volunteers are being encouraged to make a new year’s resolution and play their part in supporting a leading children’s charity.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is keen to hear from anyone willing to spare some time and join its Help at Home team.

Volunteers are matched with the family of a child receiving care at one of its three hospices – Milton, near Cambridge, The Treehouse, in Ipswich, and The Nook, in Framingham Earl, near Norwich. They then have an opportunity to provide vital practical support with things like gardening, decorating or any other tasks the family needs doing. The service also includes helping with dog-walking, cooking, cleaning, shopping, sibling support and DIY.

Help at Home Volunteer Co-ordinator Marie Huggins said: “It’s the start of a new year and no better time to make a resolution and help our amazing charity.

“The Help at Home service is so important because it gives families much-needed support with everyday tasks – things they may otherwise struggle to get done amid their busy lives. It takes the pressure off them and, from a volunteering perspective, it gives people the opportunity to forge relationships and directly help. It’s hugely rewarding and something people enjoy doing.

“We can never have enough pairs of hands so I’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch. The role can be as flexible as you like, with regular and one-off opportunities always available. We can make arrangements to fit in around people’s other commitments and full training and support is provided.”

EACH supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
