Women in Business Festive Lunch – an afternoon with esteemed women’s rights activist Professor Helen Pankhurst, CBE
November 19, 2024
Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce proudly announces its annual Women in Business Festive Lunch, set for Friday 29 November 2024, 12:00-2:30pm, at the historic Madingley Hall in Cambridge.
This year’s luncheon brings together Cambridgeshire’s leading women for an afternoon of celebration, inspiration, and important conversations on the expanding role of women in business and leadership.
In a groundbreaking year for women in leadership, Rachel Reeves recently became the first female Chancellor to deliver the UK budget in over 800 years, an achievement that sends a powerful message: with dedication and hard work, every young woman can envision a future where anything is possible in a balanced and fair world.
Reeves’ accomplishment highlights the continued momentum of women in critical roles, a theme the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce is proud to support. Events like the Women in Business Festive Lunch provide essential spaces for women to celebrate progress, inspire each other, and push for even greater representation in every field.
This year’s distinguished guest speaker, Professor Helen Pankhurst CBE, exemplifies the impact one individual can have on the world. The great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, founder of the British suffragette movement, Professor Pankhurst has dedicated her life to championing women’s rights and social justice. As a renowned academic, author, and activist, her work spans more than 30 years of advocacy across local, national, and international platforms. From her efforts in women’s education and economic empowerment to advancing sexual and reproductive rights and tackling violence against women, Professor Pankhurst’s leadership has helped open doors for women around the world.
On attending the event, Professor Pankhurst, said,
“I’m very much looking forward to an in-conversation, with a question and answer session, on women’s rights, past, present and future and the links between business and politics in this regard. Please come and join us.”
Emma Queen, Partner at Evelyn Partners, who are kindly sponsoring the drinks at the event, said,
“Advocating for women in business is not a ‘nice to have’. It is critical for business, for our economy and for society. Everyone needs to play their part and Evelyn Partners are absolutely delighted to be playing our small part by sponsoring this event.”
Attendees will have a unique opportunity to an intimate fireside chat with Professor Pankhurst, connecting with her vision of a world where women’s voices are heard and their opportunities expanded. The Women in Business Festive Lunch represents just such a commitment—gathering influential women across the region to support, empower, and inspire one another.
With a record-breaking 263 women now in the House of Commons, 41 percent of all MPs, this year has underscored the progress of gender representation in leadership roles. In Cambridgeshire and Peterborough alone, self-employed women now make up 34.2 percent of the entrepreneur population, proving that while great strides have been made, there is still much to accomplish to ensure a future of equal opportunity for all.
The Women in Business Festive Lunch welcomes everyone, including men, who are passionate about advancing gender equality and celebrating women’s achievements. This inclusive event promotes meaningful dialogue and collaboration that can shape a brighter future for all.
