Circular Economy focused alternatives for Cambridgeshire Businesses
May 4, 2021
Total waste management company, Countrystyle Recycling Limited (Countrystyle), working alongside its sister company Envar Composting Limited (Envar), has announced the launch of its waste collection and treatment services for commercial and industrial customers in the Cambridge area.
Countrystyle and Envar are part of the family owned Heathcote Holdings Group of resource management companies and Countrystyle’s operations will be based out of Envar’s flagship composting site at St Ives, Cambridgeshire. This facility produces quality PAS100 and CQP certified soil conditioner for the agricultural, viticultural and horticultural markets, as well as manufacturing quality biomass fuels.
Envar’s focus is to deliver soil quality and biosequestration, which is recognised as key in the fight against climate change.
Countrystyle’s move into the Cambridgeshire area is a logical next step following its acquisition in January 2021 of East Anglia based, walking floor haulage and bottle bank collection specialist, Indigo Waste Services Limited. Operating out of its Thetford depot and with over 1,500 bottle banks located across the region, Countrystyle manages the diversion of 20,000 tonnes per annum of separate coloured glass cullet for use as a raw material in new glass container manufacturing.
Countrystyle is also a nationally recognised manufacturer of top quality recycled gypsum powder which is used exclusively in the manufacture of new plasterboard as a raw material substitute. Countrystyle’s Kent based Plasterboard recycling facility is capable of processing 120,000 tonnes of waste plasterboard to produce recycled powder for plasterboard manufacturer, Knauf UK. Contaminant waste streams such as metals and wood are separately recycled and plasterboard paper is separated and cleaned to allow for its reuse within recovered paper mills to produce new plasterboard paper. This clearly demonstrates Courtrystyle’s understanding of a true Closed Loop recycling system that meets the needs of the Construction Industry embrace its role in the Closed Loop Economy.
Countrystyle’s Managing Director, Chris Howard, commented on the launch: “Countrystyle’s expansion into Cambridgeshire and East Anglia is a logical step for the Company using its close association with Envar Composting at St Ives.
“Joint plans for sustainable technology solutions at St Ives means we are well placed to deliver the cutting edge Circular Economy services that Cambridge-based businesses are striving for in order to help deliver the UK’s ambitious target of at least a 68% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the end of the decade, compared to 1990 levels.”
Countrystyle will be working further to reduce carbon emissions through improved collection methods, multi pod vehicles, to reduce the number of visits to sites, whilst being able to deliver source segregated collections for various recyclable waste streams.
Countrystyle has recruited Ely based Business Development Manager, Joe Hemsley-Rudd, to spearhead its key messaging in the Cambridge area. Joe commented: “Countrystyle offers businesses the green alternative to waste management. With its core ethos of landfill diversion, promoting biodiversity and working with local organisations to minimise the impact of waste on the roads and local environment, Cambridgeshire has a very green (and orange) future.”
Countrystyle also understands the importance of playing a proactive role in its local community. Promoting education in waste management and increasing consistency in the separation of recyclable materials to be collected, Countrystyle’s Schools Initiative sees its staff engaging with primary school children on the 3Rs – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Each classroom session or assembly is tailored to a school’s existing environmental and recycling policies and involves working with pupils on the school’s Green Team or similar. Countrystyle promotes its Schools Initiative alongside the Community Cricket Coaching Team at Kent County Cricket Club and also sponsors the Club’s annual Big Schools Day Out event.
