Functional genomic screens and AI: a key partnership for successful therapeutic development
Join Cambridge Network and the Milner Therapeutics Institute to explore the world of genomics and AI in developing therapies for human disease.
CRISPR gene-editing and AI are crucial tools in the early stages of developing therapies for the treatment of human disease. Such screens generate myriad datapoints that humans are unable to sift through without computational input. Please join us to learn how the Milner Therapeutics Institute uses both approaches and wide-reaching collaborations input into all stages of the translational pathway from Innovation through to patients and back.
Speakers:
Nicola McCarthy (Head of Research): Nicola has a degree in Anatomical Studies and a PhD focused on Apoptosis and cancer. She initially pursued an academic career as a postdoc for 10 years before moving into science publishing. Nicola worked at Nature Publishing Group for ten years before making a move into industry. Initially working as an Oncology Programme Manager at the CRO Horizon Discovery, Nicola moved into research and innovation and from there became a Screening Business Unit Manager. Nicola moved back towards academia as the Milner Therapeutics Institute Consortium Manager in 2021 and is currently the Head of Research at the Milner.
Namshik Han (Head of Computational Biology and AI): Namshik Han leads Computational Research & AI at the Milner Therapeutics Institute, University of Cambridge, and co-founded KURE.ai Therapeutics & CardiaTec Biosciences. A pioneer in computational drug discovery, he specializes in deciphering complex biomedical data using AI. Additionally, he holds positions at the University of Cambridge and Yonsei University College of Medicine. His work focuses on bridging academia and industry, revolutionizing patient care and drug discovery by harnessing big data’s potential. Full Biography
