The Impact of the New US Tariffs
We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming webinar, ‘The Impact of the New US Tariffs’. This session aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the recent tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump on 2 April 2025, and their implications for global trade dynamics.
US President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping new set of tariffs, arguing that they would allow the United States to economically flourish. It would be easy to compare such economic policies with the US Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which implemented a burdensome set of import tariffs in the US in the wake of the Wall Street Stock Market crash the previous year, and indeed the sentiment may be similar. However, the announcement of the implementation of the new tariffs to encourage productivity in the US based on a domestic market approach does little to encourage global trade. It does more to promote domestic protectionism and discourage international trade.
These new import taxes, which Trump imposed via executive order, are expected to send deep economic concerns around the world. However, the US President believes they are necessary to address trading imbalances and to protect American jobs and manufacturing.
In this webinar, we will explore:
- The details of the new 10% baseline tariff on all imports into the US, effective 5 April 2025, and its impact on various countries, including the UK, Singapore, and Brazil.
- The potential consequences of additional tariffs on specific countries, including the European Union and China, and how these changes may affect your business operations.
- The strategic importance of understanding the origin of products, particularly for UK exporters, and the implications of the Transformation and Value-Added Transaction Value rules.
- The concept of Origin Engineering and its relevance to navigating the complexities of international trade in light of the new tariffs.
- This is an invaluable opportunity for businesses to gain insights into the evolving trade landscape and to strategise effectively in response to these significant changes.
