A14 workers and local firm participate in charity cricket match

A special cricket match took place at Huntingdon Cricket Club which recognised a key contributor to the £1.5bn A14 highway improvement scheme between Huntingdon and Cambridge.
Andrew Farrar, Technical Compliance Manager at Mick George Ltd, has been involved with the project from the outset but was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer six-months back and is now residing in a care home for palliative care.
The 20-over game saw a select XI from Mick George Ltd take on the A14 Project Cricket team to raise funds for Sue Ryder and McMillan Nurses charities, both of which were specifically nominated by Andrew himself.
While there was no pre-arranged fundraising planned, those spectators in attendance at the fixture dug-deep and raised over £500 with bucket collection and cake bake initiatives.
Although the occasion was an informal affair, and the standard didn’t necessarily replicate that of the current Ashes series, those few ‘boundaries’ that were recorded, were rewarded with voluntary financial donations towards the respective charities.
Garry Woodcock, Head of Concrete at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Andrew was seen as a popular ‘character’ on site, respected as someone who was knowledgeable and always willing to go the extra mile to help out where he could.
“We’re grateful to everyone who turned out for the occasion and supported a wonderful cause. It is certainly something that Andrew would have enjoyed and liked to have been present at.”
