Villagers ready for festive sing-song in aid of EACH

December 10, 2019

A Cambridgeshire village is gearing up for the third staging of its growingly popular Carols around the Christmas Tree fundraiser.

Papworth Everard, between Cambridge and St Neots, has hosted the evening of festive fun for people in and around the area since 2017. It is organised by Joss Anderson and Jenni Pinnock, both village residents and part of the community choir Sing Papworth. Jenni will be conducting fellow members as they lead singing this Saturday.

Posters for this year’s event have been designed by children’s groups and guests will be asked to decorate the tree with hand-painted decorations that will be available for a small donation to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). Father Christmas will switch on the tree lights.

“It’s a great way to bring the village together,” said Joss. “Everyone who comes along has a brilliant time and it reminds us we’re all neighbours.”

Carols around the Christmas Tree will take place between 5.00-6.30pm in Pendrill Court, and is free to attend. Festive refreshments will be available courtesy of The Courtyard coffee shop and micropub, and all money from the sale of those will also go to EACH.

Stephanie Moritz, from The Courtyard, said: “We’re so happy to support EACH and this lovely community event.”
