INDEPENDENT CHAIR OF PETERBOROUGH CITY COUNCIL AUDIT COMMITTEE

Closing: 30/06/2023

Peterborough City Council is a unitary council that prides itself on delivering excellent services and value for money to its communities. The Council recognises the need to ensure good governance in delivering public services and has an Audit Committee which oversees and assures these arrangements.

Following external reviews of the council’s governance and finances the Council is now recruiting for a strong Independent Chair of the Audit Committee to support us on our continued journey to financial sustainability. As Chair of the Audit Committee, you will lead on reviewing and scrutinising the Council’s financial affairs, including oversight of the Council’s internal and external audit arrangements.

Candidates for this important role will need to be able to demonstrate their independence from politics and relevant skills and experience in order to provide robust challenges to the council’s financial management. The roles will involve reviewing and assessing the council’s financial risks along with the Council’s internal control and corporate governance arrangements and making reports and recommendations to the Full Council on the adequacy and effectiveness of those arrangements.

The independent Chair will be appointed for a period of up to four years until June 2027 and will be expected to attend and actively participate in meetings of the Audit Committee, which are scheduled five times a year.

An annual honorarium of £3000 will be paid, together with reimbursement for travelling and subsistence expenses.
