Business community invited to further boost NSPCC’s work locally
March 21, 2024
Last year, over 4,700 children in Peterborough benefited from the NPCC’s ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ programme through 16 educational settings across the city.
The important programme was one of many funded by the NSPCC to further boost its vital work locally.
In addition, 113 issues of concern were referred to local agencies – resulting in interventions to prevent harm coming to a young person in the Peterborough area.
With the powerful message that funds raised locally are being ploughed back into supporting children and young people across Peterborough, the local business community is once again being asked to support what has become a firm date in the fundraising calendar.
This year’s NSPCC Spring Charity Ball takes place on Friday 26 April, with live music, an incredible raffle and a whole host of money can’t buy auction prizes.
Peterborough-based recruitment agency Anne Corder Recruitment is organising the 2024 black tie event at the Holiday Inn West, supported by a number of sponsors.
Managing director Nel Woolcott explained: “We are absolutely thrilled to be organising what has become a much-anticipated annual event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us – supported by the very generous local business community – to maintain the tradition of raising much needed funds for delivery of NSPCC interventions and initiatives in the Peterborough area.
“It’s vital work through school and nursery settings helps identify, action, report and ultimately prevent cruelty of any sort to children in our communities.”
Nel added: “We are creating a stripped back event this year – the most important thing is to share the messages of the NSPCC and create an environment that generates generous fundraising and diverts the maximum amount of funding to the NSPCC local initiatives.”
In 2022/2023 the NSPCC:
· Delivered six child protection training courses to 140 organisations in the East.
· Delivered almost 200,000 counselling sessions via its Childline volunteers to children and young people – an estimated 800 of these children live in Peterborough.
· Licensed, trained and supported 25 partner organisations in the East to deliver services including the Graded Care Profile 2.
Hosted by magician Paul Martin, the Charity Ball will include live music from local band Motor City Vipers and there will be numerous opportunities to bag an amazing lot in the silent auction; including use of a ski chalet in Morzine or a cottage in Norfolk and tours of a coffee roasting facility.
There are also opportunities to bid on limited edition prints, a personal shopper experience in Stamford, signed England football merchandise and your very own custom-made bespoke jewellery.
For the foodies, there is the chance to learn how to cook traditional Thai food with local legend Tui Smith and bid on a cooking masterclass with former England cricketer Matthew Hoggard at his Rutland cookery school.
Event sponsors include fibre optic network specialists Sitec, and Country Court CARE – one of the region’s most trusted group of care homes.
Sitec Business Unit Director Matthew Milne said: “A massive part of what we do here at Sitec is about digital inclusion and ensuring everyone across the UK has access, wherever possible, to full fibre broadband.
“As part of this delivery, we often visit and see first-hand, what life looks like for those who may struggle to keep their head above water. We work on behalf of many broadband providers who offer services to those in Sheltered, Local Authority and HMO housing. Wherever viable we take the time to support those in need but now feel the time is right to get behind a recognised National Charity in NSPCC. Our team is fully engaged to help deliver any support, both in person and via fundraising, where NSPCC see’s opportunity.
“On a daily basis we see and recognise opportunity to help and look forward to working alongside one of the UK’s most recognised children’s charities.”
Alykhan Kachra, Co-CEO of Country Court, added: “Country Court are delighted to be the sponsor of the Silent Auction at the NCPCC Charity Ball. As a family business, our commitment encompasses a dedication to the wellbeing of all those in our local communities.
“Country Court employs over 2500 staff who care for almost 3000 older people across the UK; families are at the heart of everything we do. Country Court are keen to support the NSPCC in their mission to provide services to help children who’ve been abused, protect children at risk and find the best ways to prevent child abuse from ever happening.”
