Giant Inflatable Squid Tentacles Mysteriously Appear on Peterborough Cathedral

July 15, 2024

In a stunning and unexpected turn of events, giant inflatable squid tentacles have suddenly appeared on top of Peterborough Cathedral’s iconic Norman arch, astonishing residents and visitors alike. The dramatic installation marks the imminent opening of the cathedral’s latest summer exhibition, “Monsters of the Sea,” kindly sponsored by ARU Peterborough set to launch on 15th July and run through to 1st September 2024.

The sudden appearance of these massive tentacles has sparked intrigue and excitement across the city. Stretching skyward, the whimsical yet striking tentacles strike a surreal contrast against the historic backdrop of the cathedral, and have drawn gasps and wide-eyed amazement from passersby.

“We were as surprised as anyone to see the tentacles this morning,” said Paul Stainton, Head of Marketing and Communications. “The intention was always to create a splash for our new exhibition, but witnessing these enormous tentacles towering over our Norman arch is beyond what we imagined. It’s certainly come as quite a shock!’’

The sudden and spectacular appearance of the inflatable tentacles serves as a dramatic prelude to the fascinating exhibits that can be explored inside the exhibition. Visitors can expect a rich array of ocean dwelling creatures past and present, from Ammonites to the giants of the deep, along with interactive displays and educational activities.

The exhibition opens on Monday 15th July and tickets can be brought online in advance or on the door.
