Make a jolly start to your Christmas shopping at Peterborough Cathedral, 15-16 November 2019
November 5, 2019
For a jolly start to your Christmas shopping, come along to Peterborough Cathedral on the weekend of Friday 15 and Saturday 16 November.
On the Friday evening you’ll be able to dive into the Cathedral’s indoor Christmas Craft and Gift Market and find a treasure trove of quirky and delightful gifts. Whether it’s bamboo socks, vegan soaps, unusual jewellery or handcrafted gin you’re after, there will be plenty to choose from. There’ll also be fun for the children, with mini fairground rides outside on the green in front of Cathedral, and outdoor stalls selling mulled wine, German sausages, Christmas decorations and lots more.
The indoor Craft and Gift Market continues on Saturday 16 November from 9.30am until 4.30pm, with the outdoor stalls and rides opening from 12.00 noon. ‘Sundays’ carvery will be offering Christmas-themed refreshments in the Cathedral, and Tower Top Climbs to see the view from the central tower will run on the hour from 10.00am until 3.00pm. Tickets are £5 per person or £16 for a group of four. Advanced booking is recommended as numbers on each climb are limited (visit www.ticketisland.co.uk/ PeterboroughCathedral and select 16 November).
If you are looking for musical entertainment on Friday 15 November, the fun starts at around 4.00pm when BBC Radio Cambridgeshire will be hosting the city’s Christmas Lights Switch-On, on Cathedral Square. There will be a line-up of local musicians straight after Evensong. Father Christmas has taken time out of his busy schedule to perform the big switch-on itself at 7.00pm, or just before.
Opening hours for the Cathedral’s indoor Craft and Gift Market are Friday 15 November from 6.30pm until 9.00pm, and Saturday 16 November from 9.30am until 4.30pm. There is no entry charge, donations are invited. For more details see the Cathedral website at www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk.
The outdoor stalls and rides on the Cathedral green will be joined by more stalls in the city centre during November as part of ‘Peterborough Christmas Market’. They will remain open through December. The stalls on the green at the Cathedral will become part of the backdrop to the Living Nativity Service at on Monday 23 December, at 10.30am and 2.00pm, when animals from Sacrewell Farm will join members of the community in a costumed re-enactment of the Nativity story, ending in the Cathedral Cloisters.
