On the march in March at Peterborough Cathedral
February 24, 2023
A walking ‘modern day pilgrimage’ from Castor to Peterborough is part of the programme at Peterborough Cathedral in March, a month which has a rich variety of events lined up. The Kyneburgha to Katharine walk, led by Faye Smith of Hope Walking, takes place on Saturday 4 March and Wednesday 8 March. It is just one of a huge variety of events at the Cathedral during the coming weeks.
For those who love drawing and creating artworks, there is a sketching workshop with the artist Karen Neale on Saturday 4 March, and then towards the end of the month the textile artist Jacqui Parkinson is bringing her vibrant exhibition Threads Through Creation to the Cathedral. With 12 large textile panels, which together are made up of eight million stitches, the exhibition retells the Genesis story of creation, using vivid colour and texture.
To mark International Women’s Day there will be special guided tours of the Cathedral on 10-11 March, when you can learn about some of the remarkable women associated with this place. As well as the famous royal women, the tour will mention, amongst others, Queen Aelfthryth, Agnes the Anchorite and Florence Saunders, the Dean’s daughter who founded the Peterborough District Nursing Association in 1884.
The Cathedral choirs, Peterborough Choral Society and Peterborough Festival Orchestra will perform their Spring Concert on 18 March, which includes Bach’s Magnificat and the Lord Nelson Mass by Haydn, as well as Spirituals from A Child of our Time by Tippett.
A concert of a different kind takes place on 24-25 March when the tribute show Meat Loaf by Candlelight is brought to the Cathedral. Hurry as few tickets remain for this show.
Details of all these events are available on the Cathedral website at www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/events/events.aspx
