Peterborough Cathedral Choir invites live audience to celebrate Christmas at afternoon concert

December 10, 2020

Peterborough Cathedral Choir is inviting a live audience to join them in the Cathedral for an afternoon of Christmas carols on Saturday 19 December at 3.00pm.

The Celebration of Christmas concert will be a 60-minute feast of traditional Christmas music, including favourites such as Once in Royal David’s City, Ding! Dong! Merrily on High, O Come all ye Faithful, and Away in a Manger.

The event has been adapted to comply with Covid restrictions, with no interval and the audience seated in socially distant ‘bubbles’. Although government regulations mean that the audience is not permitted to sing, they can sit back and enjoy a beautiful sound in the Cathedral’s splendid acoustic, and also take in the wonderful architecture around them as they listen. It is also hoped that the concert will be available to watch online for those who would prefer to sing along at home whilst making mince pies or wrapping presents.

Tansy Castledine, Director of Music at the Cathedral, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we are able to be back in the Cathedral for this Christmas concert after such a disrupted year for our choristers and adult singers. There will be a real sense of joy and expectation as we sing these traditional pieces together. This is sure to be a concert to put you the festive mood!”

Tickets are £15 per person, or £10 with restricted view. They are available via the Cathedral website – https://www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/143/section.aspx/142/christmas-concert
