Roythornes welcomes largest cohort of legal trainees

November 15, 2019

Ten new trainees, the largest cohort ever welcomed by top 200 national law firm Roythornes Solicitors, have joined the firm to take the next step in their careers and begin supporting its growing client base.

The 10 trainees will specialise in an array of areas including agriculture, food and drink, private client, property and litigation.

Roythornes is also celebrating its excellent Legal 500 rankings this year, with two teams – agriculture and corporate and commercial – securing tier one rankings and many other departments featuring in the rankings.

Rebecca Earth, one of the new trainees at Roythornes, said: “I started working at Roythornes three years ago in a business support role in order to get to know the company and the legal world. The firm has a great reputation within the region and I was excited to have the opportunity to gain experience within the legal sector at such a significant firm.

“I’m delighted to have made the change from a support role to trainee solicitor and am looking forward to furthering my career as a qualified solicitor. My first seat is with the commercial property team, which I’m really enjoying as the work is varied, and I have the opportunity to work alongside well respected and knowledgeable partners. Roythornes is great at listening to you and allocating seats based, where possible, on your interests.

“I’ll be studying for my LPC alongside my training contract and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Roythornes has some ambitious growth plans for 2019 and so far, has welcomed 41 new starters and celebrated 14 internal promotions across the firm’s four offices in Alconbury, Nottingham, Peterborough and Spalding. This recent intake of legal trainees brings the firm’s total employee count to more than 220 members of staff.

Gillian Nash-Kennell, HR director at Roythornes, said: “We pride ourselves in being ahead of the curve in supporting the next generation of legal professionals, so we’re delighted to welcome our biggest intake of trainees to date. As they take the next step in pursuit of a legal career we are committed to their development, both academically and practically, and look forward to watching them flourish within the business.

“This is a time of real growth for us and we are currently looking for strategic recruits across all our offices as we strive to be the number one choice for paralegals to partners, across the Midlands and East Anglia. We’re therefore thrilled to have scored so highly on this year’s Legal 500 as the directory is a great indicator of a law firm’s capability.

“We are also delighted to be LEX100 winners in two categories this year, voted by our trainee solicitors, in both ‘work life balance’ and ‘confidence in being kept on’.”

Roythornes is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year. To celebrate, the firm – which was founded in 1934 – has pledged to complete 85 ‘green acts’ this year as a commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
